Music-lovers everywhere have always wanted great ways to listen to music on the go. For a while, there was the Walkman, then there were CD players, then iPods and MP3 players, but all of these required the use of headphones or earbuds. Only the boom box, in its time, was a portable music player designed for more than one person to enjoy, and its bulky style and heavy weight made its use prohibitive for many people. But these dark days are behind us with the advent of Bluetooth and wireless speakers. One of the prime examples of this technology is the Jawbone Jambox.

Jawbone is known for making Bluetooth headsets for cell phones, but lately, they have released their portable speaker, the Jambox. The Jambox is small, only a little larger than the palm of your hand, and it’s made of sturdy rubber and stainless steel. It is designed to be completely portable, able to fit in the smaller pouches of a backpack or briefcase, and very resilient, even surviving a drop to the ground.

The Jambox has a strong bass, which showcases the resilience of its construction, since a lot of bass can make it jump with the beat. It can produce volume up to 85 decibels, all from a single dome speaker. You should note, though, that it is meant to be portable and not a home theater system, so it sounds great when you’re walking, but it won’t give you cathedral-style sound in your living room.

The Jambox comes with a USB charger for its battery, which usually lasts for about 10 hours of use. The Bluetooth connection can be hooked to two different devices, including a PC, Mac, tablet, or smartphone, and can be used to play sound files, iTunes, or Pandora. It also has a voice with downloadable personalities, which will inform you of low battery power and more.

The Jawbone Jambox is a tough, powerful, and great-sounding portable Bluetooth speaker from a company with quality Bluetooth history, with a lot of great features going for it. Pick up one for yourself or a family member ASAP!

When it comes to listening to music on the go, one thing that always gets in the way is external noise. Whether it’s a jet engine, road noise, or crowds of talkative people, external noise always gets in the way of listening to a great song – unless you have noise-cancelling headphones.

Most noise-cancellation systems focus on eliminating low-frequency noise by producing an inverse noise of their own. This is accomplished through a microphone on the outside of the earpieces and a complex computer system inside the headphones themselves. Most of these systems also rely on traditional noise suppression techniques, such as ear-cups, to block noise in higher frequencies.

There are several benefits that come with a system operating this way. By focusing only on low-frequency noise, the circuitry in a pair of noise-cancelling headphones is much simpler than if the system was designed to handle all noise. This means less power consumption and less chance of something breaking in the long run. Another benefit is two-fold: on the one hand, because high-frequency noise has a shorter wavelength, any attempt at active cancellation is ineffective, often resulting in additional noise as the headphones attempt to compensate and are unable to do so; on the other hand, for exactly the same reason, traditional methods of noise suppression (that is, passive isolation) work more easily and more effectively.

Even so, these devices aren’t perfect. Energy consumption, even reduced, is still higher than that of “regular” headphones; this means that most noise-cancelling headphones need extra batteries to work properly. They don’t always cancel all external sound perfectly, often resulting in additional unwanted noise that sounds like static. They are also bulkier than most “regular” pairs of headphones.

Noise-cancelling headphones are a fantastic technology, and some systems work better than others. Some of the best options have all of the upsides and none of the downsides, but they usually cost a fortune, introducing an all-new downside. But for reasonably priced options, look for the simpler design we’ve described here. It’ll get you what you want without all the hassle of a big-ticket item.

Philips has offered quality portable DVD players for years now, and the question you have to ask yourself is not whether or not to buy a Philips portable DVD player – the question is which one you should buy. To help you answer that question, we’ve put together a comparison of three of Philips’ best portable DVD players.

The DCP951/37 has a 9-inch LCD and the capacity to dock your iPod right into the system. It supports CD, VCD, DVD, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, MP3, WMA, JPEG, DivX, and MPEG-4 discs and filetypes. It can also function as a digital video frame, for photos or videos that you want to display in your home. Some users thought that the build was not as solid and reliable as it should be, but overall, its many features and its excellent style make it a good value for your money.

The DCP850 has an 8-inch LCD, making it slightly smaller than the DCP951, but it also has iPod docking. It supports input via memory card, DVD, AV-in, DivX, or iPod. It also supports AV-out, so you can use it like a regular DVD player when you’re around a television. Like the DCP951, it can also function as a digital video frame. There are two headphone jacks on this device, easily allowing for multi-person enjoyment. Its 180-degree swivel screen makes it very portable, although this feature is not particularly sturdy. Overall, though, it’s a reliable player with good features for the cost.

The PET741B/37 has a 7-inch LCD screen, making it the smallest player of the three. It does have built-in speakers, in case you don’t have headphones to work with or want a lot of people to enjoy a DVD together. It also has a car adapter and AV cables so that its battery can last on long road trips and it can be used with a regular television. Most users reported 2 hours of playback with its rechargeable battery, but it can also be used while plugged in, so with the car adapter, you’ve got no problems on the road. It is handy and portable, and many users praise its user-friendly programming. Several say that it withstands moisture, extreme weather, and roughhousing by the kids. Others report defective batteries that last no more than 30 minutes and claim it has poor button controls. Overall, though, most reviews are positive, making it the best buy of the three, especially if you have kids, unless you’re really into the versatility and screen size of the other options.

Philips makes quality portable DVD players. Pick the one that’s best for you!

Virtual video glasses are the wave of the future. When it comes to portable video entertainment, it’s hard to beat an 80″ TV that you can carry in your pocket. Video glasses can operate in several different ways, and how they operate depends on what brand you get and how much you spend on them. They can also show video in 3D because of their advanced technology. There are three different types of video glasses, which we will cover in some detail, so that you know what to look for – after all, you don’t want to miss out on this incredible technology.

Video glasses either use an LCD (liquid crystal display) or OLEDs (organic light-emitting diodes). Often, a pair of video glasses with use an LCD but claim to be “LED” glasses; this is because an array of white LEDs is used to illuminate the LCD, providing it with the light it needs to give you a clear picture. OLEDs, on the other hand, are an array of colored LEDs that generate the display directly, instead of simply illuminating another display. This system uses a lens to magnify the tiny displays involved so that the screen appears much larger – usually about an 80″ diagonal some 6-10 feet away.

For most types of video glasses, different images are shown to each eye. If these images are aligned correctly, our brain can form a composite, just as it does between the two images our eyes see naturally, allowing us to see depth in the picture. This process is called stereopsis, which is a Greek word meaning to form a solid image with the eyes.

There are three types of video glasses: binocular, biocular, and hybrid. Binocular glasses show different images to each eye in order to form a 3D image. Biocular glasses project the same image to both eyes, resulting in an image similar to a traditional television set. Hybrids combine the two types so that the brain can form a 2D composite image (making the resulting “screen” larger than is possible with a simple biocular pair of glasses). Most video glasses are hybrids.

Virtual video glasses are an amazing technology that can keep you entertained on long rides on planes, boats, or trains. As long as you have a video source, these devices are a spectacular mobile experience.

The advent of portable DVD players led many parents to believe that entertainment for their children on road trips, plane rides, and during visits with friends was only a small purchase away. Unfortunately, as these parents discovered, portable DVD players lacked the strength to survive contact with their young children. But no more! Fisher-Price has released the Kid-Tough Portable DVD Player, an answer to the problem of kids being kids around expensive technology.

Finally, there is a portable DVD player that can withstand a little bit of rough-housing. Fisher-Price offers this quality DVD player to families, especially those with young children, and the Kid-Tough player can survive anything a child might throw at it… or throw it at! Strong and resilient, the Kid-Tough DVD player is the latest in Fisher-Price’s line of Kid-Tough technology, making fun and family-friendly movies available to toddlers and preschoolers who have a little more energy than most DVD players can handle.

The Kid-Tough Portable DVD Player has a 3.5″ screen surrounded with 2 handles for easy holding by small hands and simple controls for children to operate. It has an anti-skip feature to keep the DVD playing even when the player is jostled and moved as rambunctiously as children can manage, preventing any interruption from disrupting the movie experience. It also has a kickstand so that it can be set down on a hard surface as often as necessary. If you plug the player into a television, it can even operate like a normal DVD player. There’s a jack for headphones, so watching a DVD won’t distract others, and the player comes with rechargeable batteries and an adapter. The batteries usually last about two hours, and there is an optional kit with adapters to plug the player into your car for maximum battery life and long-term portability.

The Fisher-Price Kid-Tough Portable DVD Player is widely praised by parents and children for its toughness and usefulness. A few parents were concerned that the batteries did not last long enough, but they easily cover most kids’ movies and the car-adapter kit is inexpensive.

If you have a little one in your life who loves movies and may not be the most docile of tykes, get a Fisher-Price Kid-Tough Portable DVD Player. It’ll last through anything and keep playing DVDs throughout.

If you work in a noisy environment, especially one that can actually damage your ears, then a great option for you is a pair of AM/FM radio headphones. These devices are invaluable for protecting your ears while providing entertainment on the go, and we’ll explain why. We’ll also give you a few tips to keep in mind when you’re looking to buy a pair of AM/FM radio headphones.

Radio headphones are ideal for people who work in loud environments, but love to listen to sports, talk, or music radio on the job. Instead of wearing boring old earmuffs or plugs, which need to be removed and replaced throughout the day for this, that, or the other distraction, radio headphones can be left on all the time, combating loud noises around you with entertaining reports on the game or great tunes.

Generally, you want your radio headphones to provide reliable protection against loud environments, such as construction sites, while still enabling you to hear the tunes or sports broadcasts. They should also have simple and accessible controls without a lot of wires running over your body, which can provide a new hazard in dangerous environments.

When you’re looking for a pair of radio headphones, try to find some that protect the battery housing. You should also be aware that if you turn the volume up too high, you may not be able to hear anything else at all, so you’ll need to keep your wits about you on the job site, especially in a dangerous environment. These devices are a great distraction, but don’t let them distract you too much: you’re still on the job, and if there are any alarms or announcements you need to hear, whether from your boss or from a fellow worker, you should retain the ability to hear them at all times.

AM/FM radio headphones are great for people who need to protect against excess noise and want something interesting to listen to while they do it; they’re also great for exercising and travel (except on a plane, where AM/FM radio usage is ill-advised). Get a pair for yourself ASAP and start enjoying the game you’re missing while on the job site.

If you’ve watched videos on your iPod, you know that even a screen that seems large for selecting albums to listen to can suddenly seem quite small. Before you think that you need to upgrade your iPod, there may be an easier and cheaper solution. You can get video glasses for your iPod that will project a larger image and do so much more to improve your video watching experience, as we will discuss below.

When you’re used to watching a movie on a theater screen or on a big screen television at your house, trying to watch a video on your iPod can be a real downgrade, no matter how much you spent on it. If you get yourself iPod video glasses, you can wear them, and they will project a screen 1-2 meters beyond your iPod’s screen. You can get that big screen experience anywhere. And if you get the right sort of iPod video glasses, you can get a 3D video experience that simulates a screen that is 80″!

These iPod video glasses do more than just give you a large picture. They also come with noise-reducing, stereo-sound ear buds built-in. After using iPod video glasses, you’ll wonder how you ever watched videos on your iPod without them. And since they provide so much privacy, because the video is visible only to the one wearing the glasses, you may find yourself watching videos with your iPod more than on your television at home.

At this point, you’re probably wondering if these video glasses cost a fortune or weigh a ton or have some other major defect. I would say that they are reasonably price for what they do for you. And I’ve found that they are light-weight and can be worn comfortable for hours.

To take your video watching to the next level, I recommend getting video glasses for your iPod. You’ll be glad you did.

If you’re on the go a lot, then you should consider purchasing a portable digital audio recorder. These devices have great benefits for a wide variety of people, with a set of features that make them reliable and a great value. We’ll even give you a few tips about which brands are the best to consider when looking to buy your own.

Who benefits from a portable digital audio recorder? Musicians, for one. Often, a musician or songwriter will be rehearsing and will discover a new riff, tune, or idea quite by accident – only they won’t have a piece of paper handy to write it all down. A portable recorder comes in great, because you can just record the music or the idea and play it back later at your leisure. These devices are also great for students, who can record lectures instead of trying to keep up with some fast-paced professor and then come back to it later when they have more time. If you’re a journalist, you could record your interviews. If you’re a writer or a businessman or anyone who is constantly coming up with new ideas, you could use one to make memos to yourself instead of scrambling to find a piece of paper to write down any inspiration that comes to you.

Ideally, you’ll get a recorder that is small in size and lightweight. A minimum requirement for recording quality is 24-bit digital audio at 44.1KHz. You should also consider options for multiple microphones and various sound file formats (the standard recording file type is WAV, but a device that can record MP3′s has a lot more versatility). Good connectivity is essential: Bluetooth is the best, although USB connections will work just as well, but you should avoid recorders that are still relying on cassettes and other analog options.

The very best brands are Zoom and Tascam. These two are by far the most popular when it comes to portable digital audio recorders. Even so, you should also consider options from Edirol, Olympus, Sony, Alesis, and Marantz. All of these companies will have options ranging from the consumer-quality at $80 to the professional-quality at $1700. So keep an eye out for one of these useful and versatile devices; it’s almost guaranteed to pay for itself in saving ideas from memory loss.

Recording on the go can be a hassle. Whether you’re using cassettes, CD’s, or hard disks, you’ve always got problems with skipping and data retention. All of those problems can be solved with a solid state recorder. These devices are the pinnacle of audio and video recording equipment, and they are available both for dedicated audio recording and digital video recording.

No technology takes mobile recording further than solid state recorders. Because a solid state drive works in almost any conditions without any need for anti-skip technology, few other devices can even compare to its versatility, reliability, and overall accessibility. Solid state drives can also store data in a more confined space, making the whole device lighter, smaller, and more portable. This is great for concealable cameras and audio recorders, or even just recorders that are easy to carry around.

Some solid state recorders are designed to be simple, with a long battery life and enough quality to record all the details of a conversation. Often, however, these recordings are in mono sound only (that is, there’s only one sound track; stereo means that there are two sound tracks, left and right, and surround sound can have many sound tracks). Other devices are field recorders, designed to take in all kinds of sounds in stereo sound or even better. Many of these field recorders have additional programming to modify the sound as it gets recorded, if you want to add sound or echo effects or distortions.

Solid state recorders are great for surveillance, recording a special event, or just keeping a camera on all aspects of your life. Because solid state recorders are compact and portable, small video cameras can easily be connected to one for later recovery or download, via USB or Bluetooth.

With a solid state recorder, the options are pretty close to endless. Check them out for yourself as soon as possible!

Mobile speakers have been greatly improved since the days of lugging a boom box over your shoulder. I’m not even talking about headphones and earphones, which were a huge improvement over their predecessors. Today, mobile speakers are available with excellent features that you could not have anticipated just ten years ago.

One of the big improvements is the addition of Bluetooth connectivity to mobile speakers. Bluetooth connectivity makes it possible to control a mobile speaker with a remote control, a headset, even hands-free options, all without a wire running between you and the speaker. This also means that you can take your speaker anywhere with you and listen to music from your iPod, iPhone, iPad, MP3 player, or tablet, and your mobile speaker doesn’t have to be wired to any of them (provided they also have Bluetooth connectivity). This is a stunning innovation that makes real portability possible for speakers.

Another major innovation in mobile speakers is vibration sound technology. Vibration sound technology is the next big step forward in speaker technology. It uses the acoustic resonance method, instead of the old style of sound projection. This way, when a portable speaker is placed on a solid surface, such as a desk, table, or wall, vibration sound technology produces ubiquitous, omnidirectional sound. This means that the sound travels in every direction. Old speakers always projected sound in one direction – with vibration sound technology, there is no “front” to the speaker, but your music is projected in a 360-degree arc at the same volume and same sound quality. Amazing!

Getting yourself a mobile speaker is a great idea for anyone who listens to music on the go, but doesn’t have to worry about others complaining (say, in your hotel room or your own office or study cubicle). If you’re interested, check out Cowin Electronics Co. Ltd. and the Jawbone brand from Aliph. Both of these are great producers of mobile speakers.

Mobile speakers represent the wave of the future. Get yourself one as soon as possible, and listen to your tunes in style!
